The biggest little town in Australia

We live approximately 35 minutes away from Mullumbimby, a little town with an indie vibe. We go there once a week to do our organic grocery shopping, and usually like to pick up some seedlings while we are there.

One of our favourite stores is Santos, where we sometimes eat and then shop at afterwards. They have branches in nearby towns of Byron Bay and Lismore too. Other favourites include Edens Landing Health Foods, and The Source.

My boyfriend, Dan does band practice at his mate’s place every week, and he’ll drop me off at The Empire Cafe for around 4 hours at a time. This is when I get to do all my work and internetting, since we have a pricey yet low bandwidth quota. It’s pretty remote where we live, so we rely on satellite internet, and we are waiting for Telstra to install a port so we can have cheap broadband. We have paid $250 for a month’s usage before, and we have to ration our use so we don’t exceed the quota of our $60 plan… so far it’s not happened! Thank goodness for cafes that have wifi.

Mullumbimby also has a beautiful community garden, which Dan and I visited when we went to the Living Food & Soil Festival last year. There are farmer’s markets several days a week but this one is set in a beautifully managed garden.

I love farmer’s markets, and we always make sure to go to the Bangalow markets and The Channon markets. I’ve yet to visit the Lismore Car Boot Markets, and will be checking it out very soon. I’ll be sure to post pics!
